Kalimpong College Library

Kalimpong College is located in the heart of Kalimpong town in the Kalimpong District of West Bengal. Established in 1962, the College Library was also founded the same year, initially operating within the college building itself.

A separate library building was completed in 2015, coinciding with the Golden Jubilee celebration of the college. The foundation stone for the new Golden Jubilee Library Building was laid on 13th March 2012 by Shri Bratya Basu, Hon’ble Minister of Education, Higher Education Department, Government of West Bengal. The building was formally inaugurated on 26th June 2015 by Dr. T.B. Subba, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of Sikkim Central University.

The new library building has been functioning for the past ten years. Since its inauguration, students, faculty, and members of the public have had access to both lending and reference sections of the Kalimpong College Library. With more than 1,500 enrolled students across Arts, Science, Commerce, and Management streams, the library is committed to serving all academic departments.

Books in the library are organized according to Call Numbers, following the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system. The library is also a bonafide member of the One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) initiative, launched on 1st January 2025, which provides unified, free access to over 13,000 scholarly journals from 30 major global publishers.

In addition to academic resources, the library subscribes to two daily newspapers, two weekly employment newspapers, and the monthly magazine Pratiyogita Darpan. Multiple Open Educational Resources (OER) repository links are accessible through the library website. The library also maintains a blog (librarykpgc.blogspot.com) to share updates, notices, and access to past question papers.Users can conveniently access major open-access platforms like the Directory of Open Access Repositories (OpenDOAR) and are encouraged especially students to utilize the National Digital Library of India. Computer facilities with high-speed internet are also available for users.

The library is partially automated, offering web-based Online Public Access Catalogue (WebOPAC) services. It also provides reprographic services, especially for student use. The library uses the SOUL 3.0 Integrated Library Management System (ILMS), and the books have been entered into the system. This is a significant step toward achieving complete automation.
